The judges votes have been counted and it is with great delight that we can announce the winner chosen by the judges of the Best Independent Home Shop 2012 (Judges vote) is… *drumroll* Liberty of London.
Alongside the public vote, our wonderful panel of judges included Holly Becker from decor8, Romain from Fubiz, Micle from Freshome, Will from Bright Bazaar, James from WeHeart and Carole & Arianna from Heart Home magazine had the tricky task of nominating three of their favourite boutiques each, from which they could only select one winner.

‘I find Liberty consistently inspiring with products in constant rotation so they are always fresh, plus they go through a lot of work to source new independent talent and they support that talent by commissioning their work for their stores.’ says Holly Becker of decor8.
‘I think that approach to sourcing product takes risk but also intuition and smarts. I like the many other stores listed but they are really just selling products from popular brands and not really risking much or even supporting indie design in the way that Liberty consistently does.’
‘They frequently host launch parties, have design awards, workshops, go to villages to commission beautiful things for their stores only, give talented designers who aren’t showing at big trade fairs a chance fresh out of school – they really find the up and coming crowd – again, I find this endlessly inspirational. I love it when a store uses their big name to support the smaller names out there alongside their cult brands – all under the same roof – fantastic!’

Pia Munden, Design Director, mydeco.com said ‘We were really pleased with the diversity of entries the competition inspired and it was great to see boutiques from Truro doing battle with independent shops from European style capitals such as Paris – showing that British retail talent can rival some of the biggest design centres across Europe.’
